How much does it cost to get your driver’s permit in NY state

In the State of New York, applying for your first drivers license and your permit is the same thing. A Class D license is what you need to apply for. A driver’s permit is also called a Learners Permit. Your drivers permit will require that you have your photo and signature taken and stored inside New York’s computer system. The fees vary depending on your age and the date at which you applied. Let’s break this down a little further below.

If you are between the ages of 16 and 16 ½  the fee for your Learners Permit is $90.00

If you are between the ages of 16 ½ and 17 the fee for your Learners Permit is $85.75

If you are between the ages of 17 and 17 ½ the fee for your Learners Permit is $102.50

If you are between the ages of 17 ½  and 18 the fee for your Learners Permit is $98.25

If you are between the ages of 18 and 18 ½ the fee for your Learners Permit is $90.00

If you are between the ages of 18 ½ and 21 the fee for your Learners Permit is between $85.75 and $90.00

If you are 21 and older the fee for your Learners Permit is between $73.25 and $77.50
