Maine Drivers License Information

To get your drivers license in Maine, you need to apply for a standard Class C drivers license. You must have a Maine license within thirty (30) days of establishing residency. You must give up any other Drivers License that you have previously held from any other State.

Maine Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under (Graduated Driver License System)

  • Permit 

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must be at least 15 years of age.
      • Must have maine drivers ed.
      • You need Thirty five (35) hours of driving experience which shall include five (5) hours of night driving.
      • Must have an adult with you at all times (must be at least twenty (20) years old).

  • Intermediate License

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must be at least 16 years of age
      • You must have held a Permit (see above) for at least six (6) months.

  • Unrestricted Class C Driver's License

    • A couple of the requirements:
      • You must have held an Intermediate License (see above) for at least one hundred and eighty (180) days.
      • May not drive between the hours of 12am and 5am.

18 years and over

  • Learner's Permit 

    • Valid for two (2) years.
    • Take and pass the Vision and Driver Knowledge Test.
